Nutmeg is an evergreen tree that produces male and female flowers on different plants.

It grows from 29 feet up to 49 feet with glossy, pointed, oval leaves and pale yellow flowers.

The tree produces brownish yellow fruits.

Inside the fruit, the nutmeg seed is surrounded by a crimson casing (mace).
