Exercise 16: Sample Ritual Using Your Altar and Accouterments

1. Set up your altar and turn on some appropriate, soothing music or Earth sounds (optional)

2. Arrange your objects, bless, and thank them for helping you get what you desire. This consecrates or "charges" them with energy to enhance your purpose.

3. Place your written intention on the altar so that it is in a easily readable position.

4. Sit, stand, or kneel before your altar.

5. Before you begin your ritual, ask the Universe/God/Goddess/All There Is to put a circle of white light of love and protection around you and your altar. This will ensure that you are drawing the highest possible good to you and your work.

6. Light your candle(s) and incense.

7. Say your affirmation/intention out loud. You might choose to hold a stone or crystal while you voice your written affirmation and intention. It can be comforting and the stone's vibration can put you into a calmer, more relaxed trance state.

8. Relax and begin your visualization meditation.

9. When you feel your visualization is complete, say a prayer of your choice (optional) and words of thanks, adding the gratitude part of the affirmation.

10. Stay in silent meditation for a moment.

11. When you come out of meditation, take a deep breath and return to full consciousness.

12. Allow your candle to burn, if you like, until it burns itself out. Do this only if you will be staying at home. Otherwise, extinguish the candle by snuffing it. Blowing it out dissipates the energy. You may use the same candle the next time you do your ritual, but only for the same specific intention. Don't use this candle if you are switching intentions, for example, from love to money, because it will confuse the message. Throw it out when your intention manifests in physical form, and use a new one for each new intention.
