How to use Elderberry Juice Concentrate
Just add 1 teaspoon to your favorite beverage at least once daily. Asthma and Allergy sufferers may require more than one teaspoon. It tastes great in Lemon-Lime or club sodas, or your favorite tea, coffee, juice, or wine.
Facts
Since the time of Hippocrates - 2500 years ago - the elderberry has been considered the "medicine chest of the country people."
Various cultures, including the Native Americans, have used the elderberry plant to treat colds, flus, asthma, constipation, colic, diarrhea, hemorrhoids, upper respiratory problems, rheumatism, and music with flutes made from hollowed out stems.
Elderberries contain natural anti-inflammatories, antihistamines, antioxidants, bio-flavinoids with antiviral and anti-diabetic properties, and a large amount of Vitamin C. They are also mildly laxative, a diuretic, and a diaphoretic.
Elderberries were listed in the CRC Handbook of Medicinal Herbs as early as 1985, and are listed in the 2000 Mosby's Nursing Drug Reference - for colds, flu, yeast infections, nasal and chest congestion, allergies, and diabetes.
In Israel, Hadassah's Oncology Lab has determined that elderberry stimulates the body's immune system and they are treating cancer and AIDS patients with it.
Elderberries are not a drug, they are a natural food that supports the body's natural healing processes. They are safe for all ages, as large quantities (several tablespoons) just relieve constipation.
We always recommend that you work with your doctor in using Elderberry Concentrate to reduce, or eliminate, prescriptions currently being taken. Remember, it is a food, and not a medicine. There have been no reports of interactions with prescription medications. The only side effects we have found to occur are if you take more than your body needs, it will flush your intestinal tract.
Frequently Asked Questions
How Much Should I Take? How Often?
The feedback from our customers suggests 1 to 2 teaspoons daily for general prevention of colds and flu. If you start to get a virus, take more so that you have enough in your system for whatever you have been exposed to.
Asthma - from a couple of teaspoons a day to an ounce or more, depending on the person and the symptoms.
Allergies - a teaspoon morning and evening. More if needed.
Diabetes - work with your doctor, and watch what your own body does, increasing the amount you use until comfortable.
Will it interfere with my medicine?
We haven't seen that to be the case with anyone so far. Remember, it is a food not a medicine.
How is our concentrate different from other products?
Our concentrate is made from pure elderberry juice - without any added alcohol, sugar, or artificial sweeteners. (Only a small amount of Potassium Sorbate is added to prevent spoilage). Because our concentrate is from the whole elderberry, you get all the benefits of the berry, instead of just some of them, which is the case with an extract.
How long will it last once I open it?
Because of the added potassium sorbate, it should last 90 days in the refrigerator once opened. Before opened, it will last indefinitely.
Is it safe for Children?
Personally, we have given it to our children and children in our extended family. If your child is old enough to drink juice, they should be able to take elderberry juice concentrate. Be sure to ask your doctor if you have concerns.
