Chickweed is most well known as weed that grows virtually everywhere. It is fast growing, with slender stems that can grow up to 18 inches. It has oval leaves and tiny star shaped white flowers.
Chickweed is an excellent herb to use as an external ointment for Inflammations, Infections, Cuts, Bruises, Stings, Bites, Wounds, Ulcers and especially for any Itching or Irritations. Very Healing for the skin, so keep it in mind for Eczema or Psoriasis.

Medicinal Usage:
Chickweed is used externally for skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, vaginitis, ulcers, boils, and abscesses.
A poultice can also be used for arthritis, joint pains and cuts. Internally it is given for urinary tract infections and to relieve tiredness and debility.

Chickweed is eaten fresh in salads and is lightly boiled as a vegetable.

Chickweed Cream
¼ cup dried chickweed
¼ cup glycerin
1/3 cup water
¾ cup soft paraffin wax
Heat the wax, glycerin, and water in a double boiler, then add the herbs and heat gently for three hours. Strain the mixture through a jelly bag into a bowl. Stir constantly until cold. Then use a small palette knife to fill small storage jars with lids.
