Singing bowls are an ancient Tibetan ritual tool of Tibetan Buddhism used for meditation by producing a pure tone, or sound when the rim is rubbed by the wooden striker and is said to put the brain into a meditative state. Although the sounds made by singing bowls may vary due to their size and the material used in their creation, they all resonate at the same wavelength as your brainwaves resonate to produce feelings of total relaxation.
They have a diverse therapeutic value as well. The sound therapy from singing bowls are used in meditation, balancing the body's energies and chakras, healing, and prayers. Traditionally the bowls are made of seven metals, each of the metals denote the planets. Gold: Sun, Silver: Moon, Mercury: Mercury, Copper: Venus, Iron: Mars, Tin: Jupiter, and Lead: Saturn.
The wooden stick used to create the soothing tones of a singing bowl is called a striker. Strikers may or may not be covered in leather, and may be made of different types of wood. The various types of leathers and woods used to make a striker will create a slightly different tone from your singing bowl. For example a striker without a leather wrap can produce a bit of a higher pitched tone than if wrapped with leather.
Depending on the experience of the user, it is also thought that a leather covered striker may help a novice player of a singing bowl avoid the annoying rattling sound that may occur when playing a singing bowl for the first time. It requires a smooth steady rubbing of the rim of your singing bowl to produce the best and most soothing tones possible.
It measures approximately 6.75 inches in diameter x 3.5 inches tall, with a mouth opening of approximately 6.25 inches in diameter. The striker used to play the singing bowl measures approximately .875 inches in diameter x 5 inches long.
A Buddha Relief Singing Bowl - Large is the perfect addition to your meditational tool box, or a special gift for those who need to take the time to relax and meditate.

Author: Elexis M. Springdale, Az. This Singing Bowl sings the most beautiful song. I like to meditate in the mornings and I have some recordings I listen to to help me get to my special place, and a couple of the recordings use a singing bowl for a great tone to focus on so I thought I would give this singing bowl a try. i wanted to let you know I no longer listen to the recordings because this singing bowl makes so much better tones for me. I love making it sing to me and think this is the best purchase I have made in a very long time. Thank you very much for your help in selecting a singing bowl, you were right, these are really the best thing for meditation and serene calming tones.
