The term "paten" comes from Middle English, from the Old French "patene", from Medieval Latin "patina", from Latin "pan", and from Greek "patane", meaning "platter".
The altar paten is placed directly on the alter, on top of an altar cloth. It is usually made of wood or metal and displays a pentacle or other protective symbol.
Objects are placed upon the paten during magickal workings. Altar Patens are useful for consecrating amulets and other tools.
Thanks so much to everyone at Magick Moon! I am a huge fan of Amy Brown's art, and thanks to the fabulous customes service I've received I'm also a huge fan of Magick Moon! I've ordered eight of the Signature Series figurines and each one has been exquisite. Orders are sent out in an extremely efficient manner. ( My last order was placed on a Friday and I received it on Wednesday ) Not only does Magick Moon offer the most reasonable prices I've seen so far, but the little extras like free shipping and the customer reward point program keep me coming back as a loyal, very pleased customer. I can't wait to place my next order! Thanks again, Magick Moon!
